If you’ve never tried a technique, skill, or path to interpersonal conflict management success before, and that path, technique, or skill has an element of risk to it, of course, you’re going to say, “well this has never worked.

Then, because the familiar, safe choice will be right there close at hand, you will fall back to the old familiar, safe technique, skill, or path that has always gotten you outcomes that you’ve always been dissatisfied with.

Just because it hasn’t worked before for you, doesn’t mean that it won’t work tomorrow.

Instead, when the internal voice says, “well this has never worked,” whisper back “and that’s why it’s going to work now.”

And then go forward.
